For Northern Light, our exciting second recording for Delphian Records, we’ll be exploring instrumental music uncovered in the rare manuscripts of the Düben Collection. This incredible resource at Sweden’s Uppsala University has yielded works of amazing virtuosity, representing a cross-section of the some of the finest music from the mid-17th Century.
We’ll be focussing on works for trumpets and strings by Melani, Albrici and Thieme, contrasting these joyful, vibrant works with soulful sonatas by Buxtehude, Bertali and Schmelzer.
The programme will include:
Clemens Thieme - Sonata a 8 for two trumpets and strings
Vincenzo Albrici - Sonata a 5 for two trumpets, two violins and bassoon
Alessandro Melani - Sonata a 5 for two trumpets, two violins and bassoon
Johannes Prentzl - Sonata a 2 for trumpet and bassoon
We are extremely grateful for the generous support of The Golsoncott Foundation, Angel Early Music and the Gemma Classical Music Trust, not to mention our Friends and Patrons, without whom this project would not be possible.
